Oak Lawn Chamber of Commerce Announces Winners of 2009 Business Awards
On Tuesday, February 9, the Oak Lawn Chamber of Commerce recognized the winners of its 2009 Business Awards during its monthly membership luncheon held at Francesca’s on 95th. The following individuals and businesses were honored:
Don Murphy, Jr. of American Family Insurance was honored as recipient of the Outstanding Chamber Outreach Award. Don has served on the Chamber Board of Directors since 2009. His participation on the Board and in the Chamber’s Ambassadors group demonstrates his commitment to the social and economic development of the Chamber. He also demonstrates excellence in business practices, leadership and positive revenue growth through his American Family Insurance agency at 10423 S. Cicero Ave. Don is a constant presence at Chamber functions and willingly steps up as volunteer where needed. He understands the value of a Chamber to its members and the community, and through his Chamber connections with fellow members has co-sponsored First-Time Home Buyer Seminars.
Nominations for the 2009 Business Awards were accepted at the Chamber office through Friday, January 22, 2010. Congratulations to these recipients.
Oak Lawn Chamber of Commerce 2010 CheckAwards Gift Checkbooks Now on Sale!
The second annual edition of the Oak Lawn Chamber of Commerce CheckAwards Gift Checkbooks™ are now on sale. Each book costs $30 and contains gift checks – valued at more than $700 – redeemable at nearly 30 Oak Lawn merchants. Shoppers may present a coupon for a monetary discount applied toward their purchase when shopping or dining at any of the participating businesses.
“Demand for the checkbook is growing and we’re excited to let the community know about this second edition which provides even greater value than our inaugural book,” says Glen Kato, president of the Oak Lawn Chamber. “More than ever, it’s important that residents understand the value in shopping locally to support our hometown merchants.”
Businesses featured in the 2010 book include: Archer Bank, Avenue Florist, Francesca’s on 95th, Wagner’s Seafood, The Gateway Motel, Beggars Pizza, Heaven Sent, Huck Finn Donuts, Les Bros. Restaurant, Liberty Tax Service, Nancy J. Koss Salon, Oak Lawn Car Wash, Oak Lawn Park District Aquatics, Y.B. Hungry, Serendipity Children’s Upscale Resale Shop, SportClips, The BookEnds Café, The 95th Street Grill (in the Hilton Oak Lawn), The Children’s Museum, Top Notch Beefburgers West, Touch of Sun Tanning and Vino Tinto Wine Bar.
“I plan on making the Gift Checkbook part of my holiday gift giving,” says Rita Olsen, Chamber Board member. “It’s essential for anyone who lives, works or visits our community.”
